Supplemental source of Ca in the correction of dietary deficiencies or when normal requirement are high. Adjunct to conventional therapy in the prevention & treatment of osteoporosis. May be used as phosphate binding agent in the management of renal failure in patients on renal dialysis.

Hypersensitivity. Diseases &/or conditions resulting in hypercalcaemia &/or hypercalciuria (hyperparathyroidism), vit D overdosage, decalcifying tumours eg, plasmacytoma & skeletal metastases, in severe renal failure untreated by renal dialysis & in osteoporosis due to immobilisation. Renal calculi (nephrolithiasis).
Patients w/ history of renal calculi. Monitor serum creatinine in long-term treatment. Patients w/ hypercalcaemia or signs of impaired renal function. Risk of hypercalcaemia & milk-alkali syndrome (hypercalcaemia, alkalosis & renal impairment) in concomitant treatment w/ vit D &/or medications or nutrients (eg, milk) containing Ca. Pregnancy & lactation.
Reduce urinary excretion of Ca w/ thiazide diuretics. May interfere w/ the absorption of tetracycline prep. May increase the toxicity of cardiac glycosides. Reduced GI absorption w/ bisphosphonate. Decreased levothyroxine absorption. Impaired absorption of quinolone antibiotics. May decrease absorption of Fe, Zn & strontium ranelate.
